PCB EMC Rule Checking Tool
EMSAT is an EMC rule checking program that reads all popular board layout files,
including Allegro(c) board files and allows selection of 16 EMC rules to test the board
against. The program provides tagging capabilities for the various nets/traces that are
critical for EMC, indicating which are I/O nets, power nets, ground, etc. Any violation to
the EMC rules may be viewed either directly in Allegro, EMSAT-UV, or as an HTML
document. EMSAT-SI is the Signal Integrity companion product.

*~ Happy EMSAT user: We use EMSAT everyday. It takes 30 minutes to review
a board with EMSAT and before we needed more than 400 minutes. We have used
DRC to find potential problems on PCB for several years, but when we found
EMSAT, we abandoned the DRC method in EMI field. The rules in EMSAT are more
powerful and can help us find the real problems. This is a tool developed by
someone with a deep understanding of EMC. If you take a look at the rules in
EMSAT you will find this.
*~ Happy EMSAT user: We have used EMSAT for three years now, and it has become one of the most
valued tools in the EMI department. It has proven itself over and over, with new designs, redesigns, and
even troubleshooting efforts during final Qual testing. Compared to the cost of re-spinning printed circuit
boards, missed deadlines, and over-run budgets, distressed customers and stockholders, you really can't
afford not to add EMSAT to your arsenal. If you plan on first time success with your new printed circuit
boards, you can continue the gamble with spot checks, or you can stack-the-deck, and bring in EMSAT. It's
worth the investment. So buy it!
*~ Happy EMSAT user: A project was failing Qual, and by using EMSAT, we identified the buried layout
mistake, an important decoupling capacitor was tied to ground through a very long, skinny, trace. By adding
a ground strap to the rear of the PCB, basically connecting the capacitor via directly to a ground area, the
problem was solved, the test passed, and the project completed EMI qual. No matter what they could have
tried in the lab, there is no way they would have solved that problem. The department head said, "We need
to be doing this EMSAT check on ALL new circuit boards!" ......EMC Engineer, major defense corporation
